Article Marketing
_One of the mainstays in online
marketing is called "Article Marketing" -- basically the use of
articles to directly or indirectly promote your business. Typically
with article marketing, you focus on value to the reader whether or not
they buy from you for the reasons explained below.
In short, with article marketing, you discuss some topic related to your business in order to establish your expertise and credibility. This in itself increases the odds that someone reading the article will want to buy from you. But the article also increases the odds that you'll be found in the first place. On the one hand, articles can be placed on your own website, which creates more content, and this is something the search engines love. The more you grow your site, the more you tend to become an authority that they want to point people toward. Other other hand, articles can be placed onto article websites that already have high search engine rankings -- and this means the article itself can enjoy nice search engine placement. The "bio" of your article would then include links to your website, which further helps your website's search engine placement, and drives more direct traffic (from article readers) to your site. (Or in some cases you may be able to include links within the body of the article to related pages on your site.) Importantly with online articles, search engines now look at how much time people spend on the page as one indication regarding its quality -- this is a reason why you don't want to hire cheaply and end up with articles people don't actually value. The more you invest in quality, the longer term your results are likely to be. Of course you may be looking offline to reach your audience through trade magazines. I've helped with that too, and can make sure I'm sticking with specs provided by the magazine. Rates at the end of this page. Buyer Beware There are plenty of places you can outsource article marketing to, and I'm not the cheapest by a long shot. I'll explain why, so you know whether I'm a good fit for your business. Many people will use article marketing primarily to generate a lot of links from other websites pointing to their own website, believing that this can help to drive up their search engine positions. But there's a problem with this: articles are designed to be read, and if you're outsourcing to non-native speakers -- especially if they don't understand your business, business in general, or the marketplace -- they can actually reduce your credibility. Plus, as mentioned above, if your articles (both on and off your site) are linked to you and people don't stay on the page long (because the article if of low quality), the search engines will get a sense that you're trying to game their systems. This is not the way to build long-term success. So I recommend hiring quality writing when your effort is to generate credibility and long-term results. If you're just after links, then look to a link building service instead. This is much less expensive ... though I believe it has little or no value today ... and may even hurt your search engine efforts.
